Tivoli
Let’s start our journey with this amazing town close to the Capital (a train from Rome to Tivoli it’s just 40 minutes far): Tivoli, an even more ancient town than Rome. Once you are here you can’t miss a visit to its three best highlights: Villa d’Este, Villa Adriana (both Unesco world heritage sites) and Villa Gregoriana, with its fantastic natural park. If you have still time, don’t miss the Temple of Sibilla and the thermal baths of Tivoli Terme, for a relaxing ending.
Bracciano
Why don’t you escape terrible Rome’s traffic jam and enjoy some hours of relax on the quiet shores of lake Bracciano? A real oasis of peace and relax is awaiting you: the lake is surrounded by an amazing natural park, and on its quiet water you can try many different sports, from kite surf to water skiing. Book one of the frequent Rome to Bracciano trains and leave for a getaway in the nature.
Orvieto
This beautiful town located between Lazio and Tuscany is definitely worth a visit, even because getting from Rome to Orvieto by train is a fast and relaxing journey. Orvieto best thing to see is the beautiful gothic Duomo, that hosts Saint Brizio’s chapel. However, Orvieto has much more to offer: don’t miss a visit to Saint Patrick well and a walk in the underground town, a maze of galleries and tiny tunnels digged in tuff. If you still have time, have dinner in Orvieto and try some truffle “umbriachelli”: a delicious local delicatessen.
Viterbo
Viterbo is a town surrounded by medieval walls and hosting one of the best conserved historical centers in Italy: isn’t it enough to decide to take one of Rome to Viterbo trains? This town has a lot to offer: visit Palace of Priori, Villa Dante and its magnificent Italian garden, and finish your day in Viterbo with a relaxing happy ending in of the many free thermal baths.
Ninfa gardens
We can’t forget in our list the Ninfa Garden, a real natural piece of art: an English style garden, located in the ancient medieval city of Ninfa (nowadays there are just ruins). Lose yourself in the amazing natural maze of the garden, relax in the shadow of every kind of plants and flowers. The best way to reach the garden is getting to Cisterna di Latina from Rome by train, and then take a shuttle bus to Ninfa Gardens.
