Gothenburg

Spring arrives, good weather too, and you will probably feel more willing to travel. And what’s better than a long weekend for truly enjoying this lovely season? Our list today is focused on 5 perfect destinations for your May bank holiday: from Barcelona to Lisbon, passing by Marseille, it’s time to leave!

Lisbon

Do you know that 25th April is a national day in Portugal? Portuguese celebrate the anniversary of Carnations Revolution, that put an end to the military dictatorship in the country. So why don’t you take the chance and visit Lisbon in those days? The Portuguese capital is waiting for you in all its beauty and with all its “luz de Lisboa”. Visit the historical Alfama neighborhood, among Fado singers and the tiny “tascas” (the typical tiny restaurants) serving bacalau grelhado, admire the city panorama from one of the many city “miradouros”, and get ready to party in one of many bars of Bairro Alto, the highest part of old city.

Göteborg

Forget the usual scenarios of Swedish winter, with cold and snow: in springtime, Sweden completely changes. Why don’t you come to Gothenburg and discover this lovable seaside city in the middle of the country? Once you will get here visit the futuristic city theater, the Opera House, and then the Floating Maritime Museum. Don’t forget that if you stay here a bit longer, you can enjoy the night between 30th April and 1st of May, that in Sweden is a big thing: Valborg, one of the most famous Swedish festivities. Gothenburg is easily reachable by many low-cost airlines. Otherwise, you can go for a more relaxing and original route: get to Stockholm, take one of the trains from here to Gothenburg and cross all the Swedish green wilderness.

Marseille

Time to visit France now, let’s go to Marseille: once a shelter for sailors and immigrants from all over the Mediterranean sea, nowadays a dynamic metropolis, with new chic neighborhoods, modern museums, and creative art galleries. Start your visit with a walk in the Vieux Port, the old harbor area, full of colored houses; afterward move to Canebière, the big city shopping boulevard, and finally get to Panier, the oldest neighborhood of the city, recently completely renewed. Finish your tour with a good “boulabaisse”, the delicious and famous Marseilles fish soup.

Lecce

Let’s finish with an Italian city, a wonderful art town in the South of Italy. Lecce is truly an amazing place to be: it’s not a coincidence if Italians call it “the Florence of the South”. Visit its baroque-styled historical center, in particular, the old town. Do not miss the chance to see the breathtaking Roman Amphitheater and the Castle of Charles the Fifth. And since you are in Lecce, get to Gallipoli by train and don’t miss to visit some amazing beaches in the Salento area, while tasting one of the delicious Puglia wines (like Negramaro or Primitivo): maybe you could even enjoy a quick swim if it’s still not too cold. You can get to Lecce in many ways: by flight, by train or even by bus. It’s up to you!
