How to get to Milan from each of its 3 airports

Whether you’re going to Milan on a business trip, maybe in order to attend events such as the BIT or the Fashion Week, or you just want to visit its Duomo, the Sforza Castle or its stunning boutiques, you might have already asked yourself which of its three airport has the best connections to the city center. Choosing the airline or the airport could even depend on the length of your stay or the area you need to get to. So, here is all the practical information to get to Lombardy main city from each one of its airports.

From Malpensa to Milan: the best-served route

Malpensa airport (MXP) is the biggest of Milan; many national airline companies operate here in fact. This is in the Varese area, situated about 50 km North-West from the Lombardy capital. If you’re flying Easyjet on a London to Milan flight, this will be your final destination airport. At this point, you can get to Milan from Malpensa in two ways – you can take an Autostradale shuttle bus from Terminal 1 arrivals at the price of € 8 or you can take the Malpensa Express, the Trenord train that gets you to Milan at € 13. Both companies take more or less the same time to reach the central station of the city, about 50 minutes. However, Trenord also offers a different Malpensa Express with Cadorna station as the final stop, which is very close to the Sforza Castle and to one of the best parks of Milan. One last alternative could be the Malpensa Shuttle bus, which runs approximately every half an hour from 5 am to 01:20 am at the cost of € 10.

From Linate to Milan: the quickest route

Linate (LIN) is the closest airport to Milan, just 7 km away from the city center towards East; this is especially suitable for domestic flights (Alitalia flights from Catania to Milan, for instance) or international short haul trips, like from Greece, Spain or Germany. Getting to the city is so easy that an urban bus by ATM – the local transport company – can take you there: bus n. 73 has Piazza San Babila as its final stop, which also is a M1 metro station. There’s a bus every 10 minutes from 05:35 am to 00:35 am; in this case, you can also purchase the ticket while onboard (price is € 1.50). The same company also offers a coach service that gets you to the Central station for € 5 and also stops by Piazzale Dateo, just outside the central area. In this case, buses leave every 30 minutes from Arrivals 6 from 6:30 am to 11:30 pm. Alternatively, you can get from Linate to Milan by transfer or by taking an Autostradale bus, that leaves every half an hour with the first departure at 05:30 and the last at 10 pm for € 5 as well. Whatever you choose, you’ll get to your destination in about 25 minutes depending on the traffic.

From Orio al Serio to Milan: the cheapest route

The Orio al Serio airport (BGY) is the most distant from Milan, being about 60 km away from the center, close to Bergamo, in the specular direction of Malpensa. Here mostly land low-cost airlines – Ryanair, for instance, flies here for almost all its routes, even for domestic flights like from Cagliari, Sardinia to Milan. Once landed, you can get from Bergamo Orio al Serio to Milan thanks to several shuttle bus providers. In fact, both Autostradale and Terravision offer tickets at € 5 and get you to your destination in just one hour thanks to the many daily routes, with up to one bus every 15 minutes. In the first case, departures are from 7:45 am to 00:15 am, while Terravision schedules its buses from 04:05 am to 00:45 am. Both companies have the Central station as the final stop; however, Autostradale also stops by Milan Lambrate, close to the metro station.
