5 cool day trips from Milan

Milan is the economic capital of Italy. If you think of Milan you see the Pirellone skyscraper, and then Duomo Square, the “Cenacolo” by Leonardo Da Vinci, the Castello Sforzesco, the Navigli district… But Milan is also located in the middle of an area rich in beautiful cities, touristic highlights and enchanting natural oasis. So, today we take you on a day trip to Milan surroundings, with five unmissable places to visit in one day.

Trip to Monza

Let’s start with this beautiful town just 15 minutes far from Milan by bus or train. A trip to Monza is truly a jump back in history: this town shows all the traces of many historic times it has passed through. Once you are in town you can start your visit with Villa Reale, built in the same style of Reggia di Caserta, and the Duomo, dated back to 595 A.D. and hosting place of the iron crown of the old Holy Roman Empire emperors. Do not miss a visit to the Longobarda tower and a walk in the green Monza park, crossed by Lambro river.

A visit to Lake Como

Milan is surrounded by big lakes: Iseo, Maggiore, Garda, Como…We suggest to visit them all, but Lake of Como is maybe the most iconic one. In the past this beautiful lake was inspiring for great artists and writers, like Alessandro Manzoni, and it has recently enchanted famous VIPS, like George Clooney. Visit Bellagio, the amazing pearl of Lake Como, admire the astonishing nineteenth century houses overlooking the calm water, and enjoy a boat trip or – why not? – a kite surf lesson.

Trip to Pavia

Another true jewel just a few kilometers far from Milan, Pavia used to have one hundred clock towers, even if nowadays just the ones in Da Vinci square are left. Don’t miss a visit to the Cathedral, the church of Saint Michael and the astonishing Castello Visconteo, surrounded by the Vernavola park. Finish your trip visiting the Certosa, an enchanting monastery close to the city visited every day by tourists and locals.

Trip to Bergamo

Famous for hosting the international airport of Orio al Serio, Bergamo is another Italian city that deserves a long and accurate visit. Its old town, Bergamo Alta, is rooted on a hill and completely surrounded by beautiful medieval walls. Check to have on your bucket list the Old Square, the Rocca and the Cathedral. During your stay in Bergamo you could try the typical casoncelli, a true gastronomic delicacy.
